TV Junkie

Has anyone else noticed that TV is really good right now? In a way it hasn't been good in a long time? Like, for many years, TV (network especially) sucked...except for HBO and Showtime. But now, I can't even keep up with all the shows I want to watch.

My current recommendations:

1. Dork comedies- Happy Endings, New Girl, and The Mindy Project are all great. Hilarious characters and lots of heart. I finally gave in New Girl, despite my weird dislike of Zooey D. I mean, I'm over her "I am so dorky, I'm cute" persona. I've reconsidered though...it's the least I can do for the star of one of my fav movies of all time, "All the Real Girls."

Happy Endings nails the making-fun-of-hipsters genre:

2. Scandalous shows- Just finished season 1 of Revenge. Pretty good. Also, Scandal is amazing. I adore the entire cast, especially Kerry Washington.

Impossible love:

3. Shows with the word "diaries" in their title. I am still a total sucker for the ridiculous love triangle of Elena, Damon, and Stefan on the Vampire Diaries. Also, finally watched the pilot for The Carrie Diaries. I've only seen one episode, but I was very impressed. One thing I really appreciate is that they total nail the experience of losing your mother when you're young. My only beef is that young Carrie seems so much more likable that old Carrie.

Grieving moments lost:

4. GIRLS! GIRLS! GIRLS! Love it, Love Lena Dunham.

You smoked crack!...

Move over "Buffy" and "Freaks and Geeks"

I have a new favorite teen show and it's soooo good!!! It's from Australia and it's called, "Dance Academy." Yes, a teen show about ballet. I'm in heaven! Plus, the characters are amazing and the writers actually have the teens confront their issues rather than deal with them in the usual cliche ways. Check it:

For Gymnastics Fans (BEAM)

If you follow women's gymnastics, you're probably super tired of the boring skill-skill-skill beam routines. Every gymnast does the same skills because they code sucks so bad. Front ariel, BHS, LO, front tuck, bad sheep jump, wolf jump, split jump, double tuck or 2.5 twist dismount. Blah, blah, blah.

This is what beam USED to look like (when it was my favorite event)...

Oh, and don't say "but she wobbled" or something like that. That's not what it's about. It's about execution, artistry, extension, and DIFFICULTY (I put that in all caps b/c these routines are so much more difficult than today's)!

NOTE: If you click the link on the top of the video, it will open in a large browser.

#3 Kui Yuanyuan ~ 1997 Worlds

#2 Yang Bo - 1989 Worlds (age limits were lower back then + I could care less how old a gymnast is if she can do this!). The dismount is so sad though.

#3 Olessia Dudnik - 1989 Worlds (tidbit: we considered naming Audrey after this gymnast; I loved her lightness and quiet style). Dismount is again sad. She has done this perfectly, but I can't seem to find a decent quality vid.

The Genius That Is Sesame Street

Sesame Street always has the coolest guest stars. The writers amaze me with their creativity. You MUST watch Feist on Sesame Street if you haven't seen it yet. Thanks Sarah T for bringing this brilliance to my attention!

ps Can you believe people want to de-fund public TV and thus this program? I think we can cut .0001% of our defense budget to keep this going, don't you?
