How did I NOT know about this?

I just watched the first two episodes of season 2 of the web series, Burning Love. Hilarious. Amazing cast. Must see.

SUCCESS!!!

Susan G. Komen has reversed their decision and will now continue to save women's lives! Thanks to everyone who made Susan G. Komen re-gain focus on saving women from breast cancer!

The Right Choice

I've been reading this website (about 300 women who changed the world) for awhile now. I was ecstatic when I saw the inclusion of gymnast Vera Caslavska, a former Czech gymnast. She is basically the most successful gymnast in history (along with Larissa Latynia), having won more Olympic medals than any gymnast ever. This is not why she made the list however (not the major reason, that is). Take a look at this video. I get goosebumps every time I watch it. Also, read more about her awesomeness here.

For Gymnastics Fans (BEAM)

If you follow women's gymnastics, you're probably super tired of the boring skill-skill-skill beam routines. Every gymnast does the same skills because they code sucks so bad. Front ariel, BHS, LO, front tuck, bad sheep jump, wolf jump, split jump, double tuck or 2.5 twist dismount. Blah, blah, blah.

This is what beam USED to look like (when it was my favorite event)...

Oh, and don't say "but she wobbled" or something like that. That's not what it's about. It's about execution, artistry, extension, and DIFFICULTY (I put that in all caps b/c these routines are so much more difficult than today's)!

NOTE: If you click the link on the top of the video, it will open in a large browser.

#3 Kui Yuanyuan ~ 1997 Worlds

#2 Yang Bo - 1989 Worlds (age limits were lower back then + I could care less how old a gymnast is if she can do this!). The dismount is so sad though.

#3 Olessia Dudnik - 1989 Worlds (tidbit: we considered naming Audrey after this gymnast; I loved her lightness and quiet style). Dismount is again sad. She has done this perfectly, but I can't seem to find a decent quality vid.

Oh, China

A MUST WATCH. It just keeps getting weirder. I have to visit this place.

The Genius That Is Sesame Street

Sesame Street always has the coolest guest stars. The writers amaze me with their creativity. You MUST watch Feist on Sesame Street if you haven't seen it yet. Thanks Sarah T for bringing this brilliance to my attention!

ps Can you believe people want to de-fund public TV and thus this program? I think we can cut .0001% of our defense budget to keep this going, don't you?

Audrey's Pick Last Night

Last night I let Audrey pick a show to watch (from Netflix streaming). She picked "The Little Princess," starring Shirley Temple. How cool is that? Check out the trailer below- I love how glam and dramatic it is.

She's a Hipster

Laughing so hard right now.

My Favorite Video

I've mentioned this video to all of my travel-loving friends, as it is a must if you are a travel buff. This guy has several and you should check them all out (here: Where the hell is Matt?), but this is my fav:

PS My fav clip is the Norway one. C R A Z Y ! Don't think I could ever do that!

Pro-Protesting

First of all, I think protesting is totally and completely awesome. I think free speech is something we (Americans) take for granted everyday. I mean, can you imagine not being able to say what you feel? And that you could go to jail for disagreeing with your govt? That this blog would be impossible?

I especially love the anti-war protesters in Bloomington. There they are, every Wednesday, in front of the courthouse. The numbers have dwindled, but they are still there. I always wave. Hard to disagree with that message.

While procrastinating at work today, I checked out happyplace.com (awesome website) and saw a few new pro-gay-marriage signs. I posted some of my favs below...old and new. You look at these signs and can't help but laugh and cry at the same time; I mean, why on earth are we spending so much time on this? Let people be happy and free to love each other.

It's as simple as this:

Word:

This one is for my Dad and my gay ex-husband.
Haha. Funny because my dad would probably say, "sure, I love Dan!"
Ok, maybe it wouldn't be that smooth, but close.

The best of all time:

I hate that this one stereotypes (expecially since I happen to know Dan would rather do just about anything than shop), but it's pretty funny nonetheless.

BTW, a fairly recent, longitudinal UCLA study reported
that the rate of child abuse in lesbian households is ZERO.

For Parents of Little Girls Who Love Princesses

Audrey loves princesses (and barbies- yikes!). Of course, I allow her to play with them and watch their movies because they make her so happy. It's hard though. I often add comments... like, when someone says a princess is pretty, I insert "and smart!" After I watch a princess movie with Audrey (we watched The Little Mermaid tonight), I often go to the Second City's youtube channel and watch these (and they make it all better):
